Coffee Stained Coffee Cups 1991
1991
I began with the tablecloth from Coffee Seeks Its Own Level. That tablecloth had been stained by coffee drinking. Each individually shaped stain on the tablecloth generated the shape of a three-dimensional porcelain cup. Like an archaeologist, erroneously “reconstructing” that past event, history is constructed. The new cups redeem the cloth, hiding the stains. Four more people now sit down to drink. Coffee drips onto the table, requiring new cups to be made.
