Four Shirts Sewn Into a Table    1991

Four people from distant places are brought together by the powers of the table. The chairback shapes are derived from tracing four different shirts.These shirts hang on the wall, portraits of the occupants who had once worn the shirts or will sit in the chairs. In Shaker architecture chairs are hung on the wall as if sacred objects.
