Pratt Desk 2012

aluminum, chair, concrete board, paint
As in Bunraku Puppet Theater where the puppeteer is in full view of the audience, the puppets, the action and the fiction take center stage. The black-outfitted puppeteer seems to disappear. With Pratt Desk, I created a complex network of overhead gravity defying scaffolding to make a simple red plane float. Poetry arises in the space between floating and gravity. Sitting in the chair the occupant becomes a caryatid helping to counterbalance and hold up while being protected beneath the aluminum branching trellis.
