Hypar Room for the Contemporary Art Center 1999
Contemporary Art Center - Cincinnati, Ohio
1999
The Hypar Room is sliced horizontally by a raised undulating floor. The straight lines of the floor joists create this curved floor surface, called a Hyperbolic Parabloid.
The Above space contains furniture whose function is altered by the curvature of the floor.
The Below space is a forest of floor supports that create the elegant curves in the raised floor.
Museum visitors can physically explore both the Above and the Below spaces, experiencing interior architectural space and familiar functional furniture with new perspectives.
